Approach / Treatment

Addiction and trauma counseling provides you with a unique opportunity to gain control of your life. In a safe and non-judgmental space you’ll have the opportunity to release trauma and learn the skills needed to become free of addiction. With great compassion, we’ll uncover the reasons that led to your addictions, help you learn from what were difficult experiences and heal deep-rooted problems.

You’ll also learn new ways to handle stress, disappointments and difficult emotions. You’ll learn how to feel good in your own body without the use of substances or addictive activities. Additionally, your ability to solve problems and interact with others will significantly improve.

My specialties include addictions, trauma (Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder or PTSD), anxiety, depression, relationship issues and self-growth.

I draw from various theoretical backgrounds to create an individualized treatment program for each person. Modalities include:

Addiction Counseling

Addiction Treatment Counseling is specifically designed to help you break the cycle of addiction and get on the right track towards a happier and healthier life. In a safe, non-judging atmosphere we’ll look at the emotional and physical components of addiction as well as triggers: When you use, Why you use and How your use. This process will begin to give you more awareness and control over your behaviors. You’ll learn healthier choices for handling difficult emotions and situations. We’ll also identify and resolve underlying issues that might be contributing to your addiction and then work to heal these wounds so that you can move forward with options that bring you greater satisfaction with life.

California State Authorized Problem Gambling Counseling

Like other types of addiction, gambling addiction becomes problematic when continued “use” (gambling)  creates negative consequences in one’s life.  Some of these consequences include loss of relationships, jobs, homes, legal trouble and bankruptcy.  As an California State authorized provider of gambling addiction treatment, we will work together to design a treatment plan to help you break the cycle of gambling addiction.  The first eight sessions are compliments of the State of California, with no charge to the client!

Trauma and Somatic Based Interventions

When trauma is experienced it is held the body and central nervous system. The treatment modalities of Sensorimotor Psychotherapy and Psychophysical Psychotherapy are gentle yet extremely effective methods for releasing held trauma. They also provide great resources for helping people to learn how to manage physical symptoms and difficult emotions.

Expressive Arts Therapy

The Expressive Arts provide powerful and creative tools for accessing deeper unconscious material, resolving distressing life issues and helping your lead a happier more satisfying life. No artistic ability or training is necessary. Visual art, music, movement, sand tray, imagery and dream-work provide a variety of options for healing and self-expression.

“Psycho-Physical Therapy is practiced from an ideal of wholeness, rather than from a model of isolation, pathology or brokenness. It stands as a counterpoint to the fragmented and traumatized nature of our culture. The core intension of Psycho-Physical Therapy is to reduce suffering, separateness and to support the unfolding of creative potential.” – Bill Bowen
